providing fire, rescue and public assistance services
to the Rochester, East Rochester and Gonic Sections of the community.
The department serves a community of
30,000 residents in a 45 square mile area from the two 24 hour manned Fire Stations
Central in downtown Rochester, and a sub-station located in Gonic.
The Chief of the Fire Department
reports to the City Manager under the City Manager form of government. The Manager reports
to a Mayor and 13 member City Council.
The department operates with 5 Engines, 1
Aerial Ladder, 1 Tanker, 1 Heavy Rescue, a Forestry Unit and 4
Utility/Staff Vehicles of various uses.
The FY' 2008 Fire Department Operating
Budget is approximately $3.5 million dollars excluding Capital
Improvement Items. The department was approved this year to purchase a 100' platform
truck.
Rochester Fire personnel provide a wide
variety of services including fire safety inspections, programs in the City Schools, and a
proactive approach to fire safety in the community.
The Rochester Fire Department Mission Statement directs departmental
