Permits & Requirements

 

1. Installation of aboveground or underground tanks over 500 gallons. Permit to be picked up at the fire station. No charge.

2. Removal of aboveground or underground tanks over 500 gallons. Permit to be picked up at the fire station. No charge.

3. Anyone wishing to blast in the city is required to obtain, prior to the blast, a permit at the fire station. No charge.

Burning FAQ's                                State Laws

During Winter months, when snow is on the ground, all one needs is to call the fire department and give the information as to where you are going to burn. No permit is required when snow is on the ground.

5. Unvented space heaters and heaters. This covers the kerosene heaters, LP gas unvented heaters and the natural gas unvented heaters. Permit shall be obtained first before a unit may be purchased.

Requirements:

  • These type of heaters are only allowed in single family residences. At no time are these heaters to be used in multi-family dwellings.

  • For LP or natural gas heaters, we need the make, model and serial number. The Permit is to be picked up at the fire station. No charge.

6. Sprinkler work requires a permit to be obtained at the building department. However the fire department is to be notified of the work and plans may have to be submitted to the fire department for approval. The fee structure is as follows: $10.00 for any work under $2,000.00 and $9.00 per thousand thereafter.

7. Fire alarm work requires a permit to be obtained at the building department. 8. The installation of commercial hoods requires a permit to be obtained at the building department. However the fire department is to be notified of any work and is to approve the work before it is started. The fee structure is as follows: $10.00 for any work under $2,000.00 and $9.00 per thousand thereafter.
