The City of Rochester Fire department is a 76 member "combination" Fire Department, 36 full-time and 40 paid on-call, providing fire, rescue and public assistance services to the Rochester, East Rochester and Gonic Sections of the community.
The department serves a community of 29,000 residents in a 45 square mile area from the 24 hour manned Central Fire Station in downtown Rochester, with a sub-station located in Gonic.
The Chief of the Fire Department reports to the City Manager under the City Manager form of government. The Manager reports to a Mayor and 13 member City Council.
The department operates with 5 Engines, 1 Aerial Ladder, 1 tanker, 1 Heavy Rescue, a Forestry Unit and 4 Utility/Staff Vehicles of various uses.
The FY' 2001 Fire Department Operating Budget is approximately $2.6 million dollars excluding Capital Improvement Items.
Rochester Fire personnel provide a wide variety of services including fire safety inspections, programs in the City Schools, and a proactive approach to fire safety in the community.
